Introduction
A legendary figure in the arena of independent watchmaking, Roger Dubuis learned his trade by working for several large Haute Horlogerie brands like Patek Philippe before embarking on his own endeavors. Founding his eponymous brand in 1995, Roger Dubuis’ timepieces have evolved into some of the best-regarded pieces of early high-end independent horology the market has to offer. Released in the early 2000s, the Hommage Retrograde Perpetual Calendar ref. H37 collection was produced as a limited edition series with just 28 pieces, of which we have the first right here. While its 18k white gold case is certainly classically designed thanks to its round shape and gently sloped bezel, its dial is undeniably the star of the show. Featuring two mirroring retrograde indicators, this stunning white dial combines several types of hands with an intriguing typeface to create an aesthetic that is unique to Roger Dubuis’ spirit as an independent watchmaker. By combining the aesthetic flourishes that Roger Dubuis have become so well known for, the Hommage Retrograde Perpetual Calendar successfully demonstrates the artistry involved in watchmaking as the timepiece refrains from taking itself too seriously and emanates the personality of its designer in a way that links its wearer to the mind of Roger Dubuis himself, a feeling that independent watchmakers have been able to imbue within their watches to a degree that modern brands have been unable to emulate.

THE MOVEMENT
Bearing the Seal of Geneva, the Hommage Perpetual's own movement was regulated by the man himself, Roger Dubuis. Primarily featuring in Patek Philippe's movements, it was essential to Roger that his movement carried the iconic hallmark.

Overall condition is excellent. Bezel has minor surface abrasions that are very light. Some minor oxidation present on the corrector, as shown in the images. Strap and buckle are original to the watch and show light wear.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, an alternative leather strap to the existing exotic version, shall be provided.
Our Perspective
Filled with personality and Roger Dubuis' unique style of watchmaking, the Hommage Retrograde Perpetual Calendar doesn't take itself too seriously like so many other high-horology timepieces, and that is rather refreshing. This example we have, happens to be the very first one made in this configuration, bearing the serial number 01/28.
