Rolex Air-King 14000 Domino's Pizza

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Rolex has been known to produce special editions for corporate customers up until the early 2000s, and this may just be the most famous of them all. Given to franchisees who had exceeded certain sales targets (rumored to be $25,000 a week in gross sales for four weeks in a row, albeit the targets do seem to have changed over the years), these fun and cheerful watches have been coveted not only by Domino's franchisees, but collectors alike. The first models ever given as awards were the reference 5500 Air-Kings in the 1970s. Whilst Rolex is still the preferred choice for award watches at Domino's, the new iterations no longer feature the red, white and blue logo printed on their dials like this stunning example.

THE DIAL

Just as recognizable as Coca-Cola or Pepsi, the Domino's Pizza logo features prominently at the 6 o'clock position on the dial. The three dots in the logo represent the first 3 locations of the restaurant, and the overall view is intended to illustrate a pizza box.

THE AESTHETIC

Upgrading this Air-King's monochromatic aesthetic derived from its silver dial and flat stainless steel bezel, the red and blue Domino's logo jumps straight out of the watch and takes it to another dimension.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in very good overall condition. The case has some surface wear visible and an engraving of "DM" on the caseback. The dial has some uneven oxidation visible around some indexes and in the center of the dial. The oxidation is under the lacquer of the dial and the surface still appears smooth an unmarred. The bracelet has 13 links, 3 of which are removable. There is minimal stretch.

Our Perspective

A dash of kitsch, a splash of color, the Domino's Air-King is certainly a charming relic of Americana. In practically new condition, this one certainly is a stunner. There are only two ways of procuring one of these - buying one here, or going back in time and selling a heck of a lot of pizzas.
