Introduction
First released in 1945 in honor of the British RAF following their efforts in WWII, the Air-King has become one of the longest-serving members of Rolex’s catalog, with its official debut as a standalone collection, as we know it today, tracing its origins a little bit more recently to 1958. Since then, the collection has become one of Rolex’s most unique collections, with its design and construction often used as a means to push aesthetic boundaries and experiment with design in a way that few other collections within the Rolex family could. As such, the Air-King collection has been found to sport a vast expanse of dial colors and set-ups, with different bezel configurations and a large variety of sizes. Offered here, we have the ref. 14010 with a white Buckley-style dial sporting applied hour markers above its black Roman numerals. Topped off with an engine-turned stainless steel bezel sitting atop a 34mm stainless steel case on an Oyster bracelet. Produced between the 1990s and into the early 2000s, this variant marks one of the last Air-King variants to be offered prior to the collection’s evolution into what we know it as today.

THE DIAL
Boasting a white dial with Buckley-style Roman numerals that are then paired with applied indices, the ref. 14010's display harbors an aesthetic that has since become a signature of neo-vintage Air-King models.

THE CASEBACK
Celebrating the original owner's 30 years of service to the Kuwait Oil Company, this example's commemorative caseback harks back to the tradition of employers giving their best and longest-serving employees Rolexes and other luxury watches.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows fine surface wear on the case and bracelet, with no major dings or marks. Back of lugs show minor wear from bracelet removal. The caseback has an engraving with the Kuwait Oil Company on it, denoting it as a 30 year award gift. Bracelet shows minimal stretch and has 13 links total, with 3 removable. The bracelet fits an approx 7 1/2" wrist.
Our Perspective
Boasting a dial that was only offered in the Air-King collection and a commemorative caseback, this example features something different from the typical Rolex in more ways than one.
