Introduction
Launched in 1968 and stemming from Rolex’s acceptance of the idea that some of their customers would like to own a second watch, the Rolex Cellini collection is perhaps one of the brand’s most widely varied collections, with round leather strapped dress watches to oval shaped watches and tonneau-shaped pieces on integrated bracelets to distinctively-shaped dress watches like the Cellini ref. 3807 that we have here. Featuring an 18kt yellow gold case in a unique elongated tonneau-shaped case, the ref. 3807 is an unusual timepiece given Rolex’s typically reserved design language. Featuring a golden champagne sunburst dial with its matching golden inscriptions blending into its display and its manual-wind cal. 1600 movement, the ref. 3807 is a dress watch at heart, with its monochromatic aesthetic bringing a sense of refinement to its unique shape that makes it all the more elegant.

THE DIAL
Boasting a champagne dial with matching "Rolex" and "Cellini" inscriptions that are almost completely faded into the dial, this Cellini's aesthetic is intensely refined and breaks from Rolex's typical design language.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring a tonneau case, the Cellini ref. 3807 uses shape in a manner that is rather atypical for Rolex, with its status as Rolex not being completely obvious unless the observer is truly in the know or spots the coronet at 12 o'clock.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Case shows signs of careful use, with hairlines visible on the polished surfaces. Caseback retains original brushed finish, with a crisp hallmark and legible serial number on the bottom. Dial in very good condition with damage on the edge of the dial as seen in the images. Watch comes on a generic strap with an original Rolex plated buckle.
Our Perspective
A refined dress watch that breaks from Rolex's typical design language, the ref. 3807 is emblematic of the 1970s and how the designs of the time explored the use of shape in new and interesting ways.
