Introduction
Launched in 1968 and stemming from Rolex’s acceptance of the idea that some of their customers would like to own a second watch, the Rolex Cellini collection is perhaps one of the brand’s most widely varied collections, with round leather strapped dress watches to oval shaped watches and tonneau-shaped pieces on integrated bracelets to rectangular-shaped dress watches like the Cellini ref. 4135 that we have here. Featuring an 18kt white gold rectangular case that measures 32mm x 25mm, the ref. 4135 leans into Rolex’s typically reserved design language but through the lens of a dress watch, and not their typical sports watch identity. Featuring a blue dial that is understated and restrained in its embellishments besides its applied indices and hands, this timepiece is wonderfully reserved and dressy. Powered by a manual-wind cal. 1602 movement and wearing like a larger variant of the Cartier Tank, but with Rolex’s own twist, the ref. 4135 is an unsung hero within the Cellini collection.

THE DIAL
Boasting a blue dial with white gold hardware and a clean and uninterrupted aesthetic, this example's dial is the perfect accompaniment to its unique 18kt white gold case.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting a rectangular 18kt white gold case with 32mm x 27mm dimensions, with soft lugs and a curvaceous bezel, the ref. 4135 leans into the Tank's aesthetic but with a hint of Rolex's design language.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The white gold case shows a number of surface scratches and small nicks around the bezel and case sides, including a more noticeable ding on the bezel near 11 o’clock. The case back has light scratches, with well-defined engravings and hallmarks. The winding crown, with Rolex coronet, remains in excellent condition. The blue no-lume dial has some light surface marks and hands are very clean. Fitted with a black alligator strap and white gold Rolex pin buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Aesthetically interesting and horologically important for Rolex given its role within the expansion of their design language, the Cellini collection has long been overlooked by collectors who failed to appreciate its finer points. However, as collectors begin to expand their horizons beyond the typical sports watches, it is models like the ref. 4135 that are reaping the rewards and gaining traction and demand.
