Introduction
Holding a significant place in the history of horology, the Rolex Centregraph Chronograph ref. 3462 was introduced in the late 1930s as part of Rolex's efforts to innovate and refine the chronograph market. This model emerged during a period when wristwatches were transitioning from being mere timekeeping devices to multifunctional instruments, particularly valuable for scientific and professional applications. The ref. 3462 was distinguished by its Observatory Chronometer certification, a mark of superior accuracy and reliability that was held in specifically high regard at the time. This certification was a testament to any brand’s commitment to precision, as only watches meeting stringent criteria were awarded this status. Boasting a mirror track luminous dial, the ref. 3462’s display was designed to ensure legibility under various lighting conditions, as evidenced by its heavily luminous hour markers and blued steel hands. Rolex’s signature robust construction style is also evident in the ref. 3462’s stainless steel monopusher case, which provided durability and protection for the intricate manual-wind cal. 10 1/2''' movement inside.

THE DIAL
Featuring a unique abundance of colors thanks to its aged hour markers, blued steel hands, splashes of red, beige backdrop and grey minute track, the ref. 3462's display builds on its already unusual appearance in a rather appealing manner.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Fitted with a rather unique construction style, the ref. 3462's stainless steel 29mm case comes with an engine-turned bezel and single pusher for its chronograph pusher that gives it an unusual aesthetic, while also signalling that the watch is more than it seems.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Case exhibits moderate surface wear commensurate with its age. Engine turned bezel shows similar wear, with some softness along the edge. Original multi-tone dial with mirror track in very good condition. There is spotting along the surface, with discoloration throughout. The original luminous has aged to a dark tone wtih some darker areas. Numbers along the caseback are crisp and fully visible. GF signed expansion bracelet has 12 links total, and it fits an approx 7 1/2" wrist, with little stretch.
Our Perspective
A historical watch from Rolex, the ref. 3462 signalled one of Rolex's earliest entries into the chronograph market as the brand tried to experiment with new designs and technology. While the brand ultimately decided to go in a different direction, that makes these extremely rare watches all the most appealing for collectors.
