Introduction
While they might be best-known for their impeccably-made tool watches and variety of luxurious dress watches, Rolex have a history of making other timepieces too, namely pocket watches like the ref. 2728 that we have here. An understated pocket watch that breaks away from Rolex’s typical design language rooted in sports watches and rugged utility, the Convertible "La Girouette"ref. 2728 fob-style pocket watch is a classical piece of 1930s horological design with a small stainless steel case measuring 29.5mm in diameter with a clean silver dial that lacks any unnecessary details or flourishes that might otherwise distract from its simple job of telling the time. Offered as both a pocket watch or a desk clock, the ref. 2728’s stainless steel watch component can be spun around a ball bearing within its leather case to either be used as a desk clock, or be worn in reverse so as to protect its dial.

THE DIAL
Featuring a simple silver dial with radium lume for its Arabic numerals and hands, the ref. 2728's display is impressively legible, which is important given its function as a small desk clock.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Housed within a leather fob-style case and attached by a ball joint, the ref. 2728 can be used as a desk clock or worn as a pocket watch.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The leather fob case remains excellent, with some scuffs to the green finish and slightly more wear visible on the strap attached to the steel fob. The reversible steel watch sits on a ball within the case, allowing it to be positioned at different angles or to display either the dial or case back. The steel case shows surface scratches and minor nicks. The dial shows surface marks, including a more noticeable scratch to the centre, while the radium lume has taken on a spotted appearance as often seen.
