Introduction

Perhaps one of the most iconic timepieces to have ever hit the market, the Rolex Daytona is widely recognized as one of the most desirable watches there is. Distinguished by its three generations, what we have here is the 3rd generation (6-digit reference) Daytona Cosmograph powered by Rolex's first in-house fully-integrated column-wheel actuated chronograph movement, the cal. 4130. Moving on from the Zenith-supplied El Primero-derived cal. 4030, Rolex stepped up their game in 2000 when they launched the 3rd generation Daytona (still the current generation), with one of the most impressive tool watch chronograph movements ever made. A wonderful expression of Rolex's engineering capabilities and the consistency in their iconic design language, this Ruby Bezel Daytona with Rubellite dial blends the tool watch functionality of the Daytona family with the luxurious construction and design that has seen factory gem-set examples like this exact one balloon in demand as collectors seek to move away from custom-iced watches and add watches to their collection that were designed and constructed by the watchmaker as they intended. Mechanically astute, aesthetically unique, the Daytona has remained at the top of the pecking order for decades and shows no signs of stepping down soon.

THE DIAL

This example's garnet or "grossular" stone dial brings a stunning level of visual depth to its overall aesthetic, with its wavy texture and variety of shades of color ranging from light pink to dark red in various lighting conditions.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Contrasted by its multi-colored dark red garnet dial, this example's light pink ruby-set bezel and dark red leather strap all combine to create an aesthetic that is truly gorgeous and visually distinctive.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in near-mint condition. Very light hairlines scratches are present along the side of the case. Caseback has full sticker bearing the coronet logo and reference number. Band shows very little signs of wear.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, an alternative leather strap to the existing exotic version shall be provided.

Our Perspective

An exceedingly rare stone dial variant of the iconic Daytona Cosmograph, the example we have here is a piece of Rolex history as it stands as a relic of Rolex's diminishing practice of using stones like garnet, or "grossular" as it is known, for their dials anymore.
