Introduction
Released to celebrate Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945, the Rolex Datejust has become one of the Genevan Giant's most iconic watches. The world's first wristwatch to display the date via an aperture on the dial, the Datejust revolutionized wristwatch design for decades to follow. With its emblematic Cyclops lens, jubilee bracelet (designed specifically for the model in 1945), and classy fluted precious metal bezel, the Datejust's aesthetic has always been that of pure elegance and class. Perhaps one of Rolex's most recognizable designs, the Datejust has evolved from its dressier roots into a perfectly capable timepiece rivaling the robustness of most brand's sports watches. Featuring a stainless steel case with a screw-down crown and caseback, the Datejust packs an impressive 100m of water resistance alongside its consistently capable movements and construction that have enabled it to become one of the best-equipped watches for daily wear and tear. Available with several different dial options, in a multitude of materials, and across many styles, the Datejust is an inescapable reflection of its owner, with a model out there to suit pretty much everybody's tastes and preferences.

THE DIAL
Boasting a silver Jubilee dial, identified by its repeating 'ROLEX' pattern, to match its Jubilee bracelet, this ref. 16200 is a harmoniously constructed watch. Most notably, however, this example's dial is the "computer" subvariant thanks to its applied concentric Arabic numerals.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Made of stainless steel and boasting a flat steel bezel and jubilee bracelet, this ref. 16200's features contrast one another as its flat bezel is understated, and its Jubilee bracelet is that bit more style-oriented.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case remains very well defined, with some light scuffs and a couple of tiny nicks, while the polished bezel shows light surface scratches. The case back still retains the factory sticker, with a small amount of wear present. The so-called computer dial with applied radial Arabic hour markers remains in near-mint condition, with the exception of the 4 o’clock index, which shows a slight colour variation consistent with light oxidation, while the no-lume hands are very clean. It is fitted with a solid-link Jubilee bracelet showing light surface marks and light play between the links. It is fitted with 17 links plus two additional links included and fits approximately a 6¾” wrist.
Our Perspective
A wonderfully designed timepiece that carefully balances its size with retaining the Datejust's iconic aesthetic, the ref. 16200 is impressive in its ability to take small design choices, such as a subtle dial texture, and use them to its advantage.
