Introduction
A legendary timepiece with an unrivaled history, the Rolex Day-Date has earned its place as "The Ultimate Watch of Prestige" from its decades on the wrists of the world's most influential people. Released in 1956, the Day-Date quickly became synonymous with luxury, prestige, and exclusivity thanks to being the watch of choice for the world's athletes, visionaries, and world leaders alike. Only ever constructed of precious metals, the Day-Date's aesthetic is that of sheer elegance and grace. Aside from the beautiful array of dial options that have been available over the decades, the Day-Date's most iconic piece of design is its three-piece "Presidential" or "President" bracelet. Forming the bedrock of its design, the Presidential bracelet has become synonymous with Rolex's flagship collection and their desire to create the very best and most iconic watches that the world has ever seen. With its timeless design and inescapable impact on horology, the Day-Date stands as a vivid reminder of just how successful they have been in realizing that very mission.

THE DIAL
Sitting atop its stunning champagne pie-pan dial, this example's applied dagger-shaped hour markers add a distinct aesthetic to this stunning Day-Date.

THE BRACELET
Made in Japan instead of Switzerland, this Day-Date's bracelet hints at Rolex's infamous efforts to avoid taxes on their watches. Instead of shipping the full watch head and bracelet and thus being liable for the tax on the full value of the watch, Rolex would sometimes have bracelets made where the watch was going to be retailed, like Japan in this case, so as to avoid the tax that would otherwise be payable.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Case has been previously polished, and exhibits only minor surface wear presently. Bezel teeth are soft and worn as seen in the images. The engravings between the lugs are faint, but visible with a loupe. Original champagne claw dial in very good condition. There is spotting visible along the surface of the dial, and the luminous is discolored. Watch comes on a Japan made contract bracelet with 19 links total. It fits an approx 7 1/4" wrist on the largest clasp setting. There is light stretch.
Our Perspective
Featuring a stunning dagger dial, this Day-Date combines the best the collection has to offer with something quintessentially Rolex; a desire to work their way around taxes.
