Introduction

A legendary timepiece with an unrivaled history, the Rolex Day-Date has earned its place as "The Ultimate Watch of Prestige" from its decades on the wrists of the world's most influential people. Released in 1956, the Day-Date quickly became synonymous with luxury, prestige, and exclusivity thanks to being the watch of choice for the world's athletes, visionaries, and world leaders alike. Only ever constructed of precious metals, the Day-Date's aesthetic is that of sheer elegance and grace. Aside from the beautiful array of dial options that have been available over the decades, the Day-Date's most iconic piece of design is its three-piece "Presidential" or "President" bracelet. Forming the bedrock of its design, the Presidential bracelet has become synonymous with Rolex's flagship collection and their desire to create the very best and most iconic watches that the world has ever seen. With its timeless design and inescapable impact on horology, the Day-Date stands as a vivid reminder of just how successful they have been in realizing that very mission.

This particularly example was delivered by Rolex to Asprey in the UK, then to the Palace in Oman, likely as a gift to an important dignitary. Like all special delivery watches, the inside caseback has the full serial number engraved, as well as the RWC LTD import stamp.

THE DIAL

Fitted with a beautiful silver pie-pan dial, this example's secret is its co-signed nature, with it bearing the signature of Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the former Sultan of Oman at 6 o'clock. This signature likely designates this as a watch from his personal collection or a persona commission produced with the express purpose of being gifted to a friend, family member or foreign dignitary. This example's position as a special order piece is further buoyed by the engraving of its serial number on the inside of its caseback.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Featuring the "Bark" finish, this ref. 1807's bezel and middle bracelet links all feature deep knurled texture that is similar to the texture found on a tree's bark.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in remarkable like-new overall condition. Case is sharp with well defined bark finish and case edges, and only the lightest signs of handling on the edge of the lugs. Caseback lugs have very light wear from removing the bracelet. The dial is in near-mint condition with nicely aged luminous plots and matching hands. The bracelet has 19 links total, with no stretch. Inside caseback shows no previous service marks.

Our Perspective

An intensely rare watch that now is a symbol of one of Oman, and the entire Middle East's, most iconic leaders, the ref. 1807 Qaboos has rightfully become a watch that collectors can usually only dream of adding to their collection. A unique opportunity to own a truly rare presentation watch in truly remarkable condition.
