Introduction

A legendary timepiece with an unrivaled history, the Rolex Day-Date has earned its place as "The Ultimate Watch of Prestige" from its decades on the wrists of the world's most influential people. Released in 1956, the Day-Date quickly became synonymous with luxury, prestige, and exclusivity thanks to being the watch of choice for the world's athletes, visionaries, and world leaders alike. Only ever constructed of precious metals, the Day-Date's aesthetic is that of sheer elegance and grace. Aside from the beautiful array of dial options that have been available over the decades, the Day-Date's most iconic piece of design is its three-piece "Presidential" or "President" bracelet. Forming the bedrock of its construction, the Presidential bracelet has become synonymous with Rolex's flagship collection and their desire to create the very best and most iconic watches that the world has ever seen. With its timeless style and inescapable impact on horology, the Day-Date stands as a vivid reminder of just how successful they have been in realizing that very mission.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring a distinctive black dial with gilt inscriptions, the Day-Date ref. 6611 fully embraces its mid-century design language, which its pointed hour markers and alpha-style hands also build upon.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

A mainstay of the collection over the decades, the ref. 6611B's tightly fluted bezel has become its signature detail, with later Day-Dates featuring fluted bezels with sharper angles and bigger spaces.

Condition

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case remains symmetrical, with surface scratches and marks present. The finely milled coin-edge bezel remains well defined with some surface scratches in places. The glossy gilt dial remains near mint, with very clean hour and minute hands, while the seconds hand shows some oxidation. It is fitted with a brown leather strap and a gold-plated pin buckle.

Our Perspective

Produced for a short two-year period from 1957 to 1959 between the ref. 6510's discontinuation and ref. 1803's launch, the ref. 6611 serves as a rare transitional model standing between the earliest Day-Date and the more modern Day-Date as so many of us know and love.
