Rolex Early Oyster 3019 Manual Wind

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Famed as the base model that all of Rolex’s sports models use as their foundations, the Oyster is an iconic watch that has a profound impact on horology. While its no-frills stainless steel construction is utilitarian, its design is equally timeless and classic. With its smooth stainless steel bezel and clean dial, the Oyster has long been a collector favourite. Offered here we have the Oyster ref. 3019, a 24mm manual-wind timepiece available in the 1940s. Our example features a stainless steel case, an Arabic dial with an aged golden patina, and a large OYSTER PATENT-signed winding crown that serves to cap off what is a wonderfully charismatic piece of mid-century watchmaking history.

Condition

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows surface scratches and marks as expected of a watch of this vintage. The case back retains well-defined engravings and stamps, along with a personal engraving. The original OYSTER PATENT crown remains present. The dial shows some spotting and oxidation to the applied hour markers, while the no-lume hands remain clean. It is fitted with a well-used brown leather strap and a brass pin buckle.

Our Perspective

A beautifully designed watch with its understated flat bezel, appealing Arabic dial, and large winding crown, this Rolex ref. 3019 will certainly make for a unique addition to any collection.
