Introduction
Released to celebrate Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945, the Rolex Datejust has become one of the Genevan Giant's most iconic watches. The world's first wristwatch to display the date via an aperture on the dial, the Datejust revolutionized wristwatch design for decades to follow. With its emblematic Cyclops lens, jubilee bracelet (designed specifically for the model in 1945), and classy fluted precious metal bezel, the Datejust's aesthetic has always been that of pure elegance and class. Perhaps one of Rolex's most recognizable designs, the Datejust has evolved from its dressier roots into a perfectly capable timepiece rivaling the robustness of most brand's sports watches. Featuring a stainless steel case with a screw-down crown and caseback, the Datejust packs an impressive 100m of water resistance alongside its consistently capable movements and construction that have enabled it to become one of the best-equipped watches for daily wear and tear. Available with several different dial options, in a multitude of materials, and across many styles, the Datejust is an inescapable reflection of its owner, with a model out there to suit pretty much everybody's tastes and preferences.

THE DIAL
Boasting a plain white dial with 18kt yellow gold applied indices, this ref. 6917's display ties in with its luxurious construction nicely. However, its elusive Tiffany & Co. stamp further seals the deal for this watch as a rather special example.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While small in nature, this 26mm Datejust ref. 6917's two-tone construction and interesting dial combine to leverage the Datejust's iconic design into something that still has a truly impressive wrist presence.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The steel case shows surface scratches and nicks along with signs of a previous polish, as well as some wear on the inner edge of the lugs. The yellow gold bezel shows scratches but remains reasonably well defined. The case back retains well-defined factory engravings. The Tiffany & Co. signed dial shows surface marks and some degradation around the lume plots, while the hands display light oxidation. It is fitted with a steel and yellow gold Jubilee bracelet showing surface marks and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 18 links, 2 of which are removable, and fits approximately a 6½” wrist.
Our Perspective
A wonderfully designed timepiece that carefully balances its small size with retaining the Datejust's iconic aesthetic, the ref. 6917 is impressive in its own right, but with a Tiffany & Co. co-signed dial, it is that bit even more special.
