Introduction

Released to celebrate Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945, the Rolex Datejust has become one of the Genevan Giant's most iconic watches. The world's first wristwatch to display the date via an aperture on the dial, the Datejust revolutionized wristwatch design for decades to follow. With its emblematic Cyclops lens, jubilee bracelet (designed specifically for the model in 1945), and classy fluted precious metal bezel, the Datejust's aesthetic has always been that of pure elegance and class. Perhaps one of Rolex's most recognizable designs, the Datejust has evolved from its dressier roots into a perfectly capable timepiece rivaling the robustness of most brands' sports watches. Featuring a stainless steel case with a screw-down crown and caseback, the Datejust packs an impressive punch. 100m of water resistance alongside its consistently capable movements and construction have enabled it to become one of the best-equipped watches for daily wear and tear. Available in several different dial options, a multitude of materials, and across many styles, the Datejust is an inescapable reflection of its owner, with a model out there to suit pretty much everybody's tastes and preferences. The majority of Datejusts' were produced in stainless steel and two-tone, with fewer quantities made in 18k solid gold. Offered here, our Ladies Datejust ref. 69179 example boasts a stunning ‘Tridor’ construction whereby it features all three golds. Beginning with its white gold portions that make up its majority, and a yellow gold fluted bezel and winding crown, this watch appears like the majority of two-tone watches, except for the center link of its President bracelet that combines rose gold with yellow gold and a white gold strip that is thoroughly unique. Finally, this example also boasts a stunning diamond-set pink coral dial that exists as one of the rarest stone dials that Rolex ever made and tops this watch off perfectly.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Predominately made of 18kt white gold and featuring parts made of 18kt yellow and rose gold, the Tridor's construction is inarguably one of the most unique across all of Rolex's offerings.

Condition

Watch is in excellent overall condition. The case show some surface wear, and sharp brush lugs and a crisp bezel. There are more noticeable signs of wear on the 9 o'clock side of the case as seen in the images. The gold surfaces have started to oxidize and show a warm color tone. The original coral diamond dial is near-mint with no cracks or hairlines. Bracelet has 34 links total, 3 of which are removable. It fits a 6" wrist and shows only minor stretch.

Our Perspective

Combining the unique construction that the Tridor offers along with a diamond-set stone dial made of pink coral, no less, this ref. 69179 is perhaps one of the most interesting Ladies Datejusts that we have had the pleasure of offering.
