Introduction
Released to celebrate Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945, the Rolex Datejust has become one of the Genevan Giant's most iconic watches. The world's first wristwatch to display the date via an aperture on the dial, the Datejust revolutionized wristwatch design for decades to follow. With its emblematic Cyclops lens and classy fluted bezel, the Datejust's aesthetic has always been that of pure elegance and class. Perhaps one of Rolex's most recognizable designs, the Datejust has evolved from its dressier roots into a perfectly capable timepiece rivaling the robustness of most brands' sports watches. Featuring an Oyster case with a screw-down crown and caseback, the Datejust packs an impressive punch. 100m of water resistance alongside its consistently capable movements and construction have enabled it to become one of the best-equipped watches for daily wear and tear. Available in several different dial options, a multitude of materials, and across many styles, the Datejust is an inescapable reflection of its owner, with a model out there to suit pretty much everybody's tastes and preferences. The majority of Datejusts' were produced in stainless steel and two-tone, with fewer quantities made in 18k solid gold, and even fewer featured stone dials like our example here with its bright blue lapis lazuli stone dial.

THE DIAL
While the lapis lazuli dial is rare amongst Rolex models, it is even more difficult to find in the Datejust, as it was often used in the Day-Date collection instead. Bright blue with subtle dark veining, it is a sight to behold.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Offered as an elegant ladies' dress watch, this example's pairing on a blue leather strap matches its blue lapis lazuli stone dial while also downplaying the luxury of its 18kt yellow gold case.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch remains in excellent overall condition. The yellow gold case is still well defined, with symmetrical lugs and some light scratches and marks on the case commensurate with a watch of this age. The fluted bezel is excellent, with some light scratches. The case back has a crisp French import mark and REGISTERED DESIGN engraving. All hallmarks are fully legible. The lapis dial is excellent, with no cracks or fissures and clear text. The no-lume hands are very clean. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap with a gold-plated buckle. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
An elegant and rare ladies dress watch, this example combines an precious metal case with an incredibly rare lapis lazuli stone dial to create an incredible wearing experience that female watch collectors so often have to miss out on given brands' focus on the men's market.
