Introduction
Famed as the base model that all of Rolex’s sports models use as their foundations, the Oyster Perpetual is an iconic watch that has a profound impact on horology. While its no-frills stainless steel construction is utilitarian, its design is equally timeless and classic. With its smooth stainless steel bezel and clean dial, the Oyster Perpetual has long been a collector favorite. Produced from the late 1950s until the early 1980s, the Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002 introduced the automatic cal. 1560 movement to Rolex’s catalog and came with either a silver or a gilt dial. Here we have the silver dial variant on a stunning bright blue leather strap with a stainless steel bezel. Beyond just its stunning silver shimmer and charismatic patina, this example’s dial is also co-signed by Linz, the brother-owned jeweler. Founded in the late 1800s in Denison, Texas, Linz retailed Rolex timepieces and served as a waypoint for Rolex timepieces to enter the American market during the mid-1900s. Existing as a mark of remembrance, this Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002 celebrates that old relationship and the vital role that retailers play in the popularisation of watchmakers across the globe.

THE DIAL
Offered with a stunning silver dial with applied index hour markers, this example's secret is its subtle "Linz" inscription below "Oyster Perpetual" at 12 o'clock, denoting its unique history and exceptional rarity.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring 34mm in diameter, the ref. 1002 is an easy watch to pull off for any wrist size, and with this example's stunning silver dial, it is quite the strap monster.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
In very good original condition. The dial is spotted and oxidised, giving the watch great character. The case with minor polishing and surface wear. Some minor dings to the case back that are consistent with the age of the watch. Minor porosity between the lugs but all the numbers are fully visible.
Our Perspective
Featuring a double signed dial bearing the name of the small American jeweler and Rolex retailer, Linz, this Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002 has a profound link with the United States and Rolex's history in America.
