Introduction
Introduced in 1933 and produced ever since in some form or another, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual has seen countless variations of itself produced in various metals, with an exhaustive array of dial configurations and a plethora of different bracelets and straps utilized over its storied past. Used as the basis for just about every other Rolex watch, the Oyster Perpetual is Rolex’s foundation, a foundation that they decided to expand upon in 1954 with the Rite Time. Launched with a date function but still harbouring the Oyster Perpetual’s 34mm stainless steel case as opposed to the Datejust’s 36mm, the Rite Time was a scarcely made watch that has grown into a wonderfully rare part of Rolex’s history. Offered with a black honeycomb dial with gold applied triangular indices and sharp dauphine hands, the Rite Time was an elegant offering that kept the Oyster Perpetual’s rugged design rather than move into the Datejust’s elegant territory.

THE DIAL
Offered with a black honeycomb dial with gold applied triangular indices, sharp dauphine hands and a date aperture with a gold border, the Rite Time is a beautifully elegant watch that showcases Rolex's attention to detail, even all those years ago.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring 34mm in diameter, the Rite Time harbours the same vintage charm and appeal that so many collectors look out for and cherish in these mid-century timepieces.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Case shows signs of wear including small scratches and dings. Serial number is difficult to read without a loupe. Bezel is still sharp and flat and retains its original shape. The gilt textured dial has discolored lume but an otherwise excellent dial. Watch comes on a generic strap with a generic buckle.
Our Perspective
An unusual piece from Rolex's history, the Rite Time was offered as a half-way point between the Oyster Perpetual's no-frill's design and the Datejust's increased utility through its eponynmous date function. A fabulously rare watch, the Rite Time is not something you see everyday.
