Introduction
Offered since the 1920s, the Oyster has come to define Rolex aesthetic and technical achievements in just about every way possible. Initially offered as the watch that gave Rolex the hermetically sealed and waterproof case design that would underpin their catalog ever since, the Oyster has grown into the foundation of everything Rolex produces. Now the starting point of so many other collections, it is the Oyster that marks each collection’s beginning. With a long and storied past, it serves as no surprise that the Oyster has sported an incredible litany of case designs, dial designs, construction materials, and everything else that could vary in a watch. As such, what we have here is the Oyster Precision ref 6422. Made of stainless steel and measuring 34mm in diameter, it sports a gorgeous black dial complete with applied gold indices, gold hands, and gilt inscriptions that really set off its luxurious aesthetic. Harboring vintage appeal through its dial and size, the Oyster Precision ref. 6422 feels perfectly contemporary on the wrist for those used to 34mm watches, such is the Oyster’s staying power and the consistency of its blueprint in Rolex’s catalog over the several decades it has been around.

THE DIAL
Boasting yellow gold applied hour markers, yellow gold dauphine hands, and gilt inscriptions that are all in pristine condition, this ref. 6422's black display still manages to subtly hint at the example's age through the gentle toning of its dial furniture.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting a 34mm case made of stainless steel, the ref. 6422's Oyster case is instantly recognizable as a Rolex, with its flat steel bezel and large screw-down winding crown, which has formed the foundation of its waterproofness for over a century.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
This watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case has some surface scratches and small nicks consistent with vintage wear, while retaining strong proportions. The case back has light surface marks. The dial is excellent, with a few surface marks and very slight lifting of the lacquer around the hour markers. The hands are in excellent condition, with some light oxidation visible on the seconds hand. The watch is fitted with a black crocodile strap with an unsigned steel pin buckle, both in like new condition.
Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Robust and utilitarian, the manual-wind Oyster Precision has always been built to last, but in splendid condition, this ref. 6422 is a shining example of what collectors can get from the world of vintage Rolex that modern timepieces just cannot emulate.
