Introduction
Debuting in 1953 and released to the public the following year, the Rolex Submariner has undoubtedly become one of the most iconic timepieces of all time thanks to its legendary status as Rolex's flagship dive watch. Used extensively by the British Royal Navy and professional diving operations like COMEX, the Submariner set the bar for all dive watches to follow. Featuring a genuinely timeless design that has remained relatively unchanged throughout its history, the Rolex has become the archetypal sports watch. With very few large-scale aesthetic upgrades made to it over the years except for timely advancements like introducing a date function to the collection in the late '60s, and its modern cerachrom bezels, the Submariner is seen as the prototypical dive watch thanks to its consistency. The Submariner has earned its status as a legendary watch, with it today remaining as one of the most sought-after timepieces around.
The 5513 was produced from 1962 to 1988, and was the non-chonometer version of the non-date Submariner. There were a multude of dial variants made over those 26 years, ranging from gilt chapter ring dials in the beginning to matte dials, then ultimately the glossy dials with white gold luminous surrounds.

THE DIAL
With its well-preserved "Mk4" dial, this example's tritium hands and maxi hour markers have aged to include a subtle creamy yellow color that is easily distinguished against the matte black display.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Iconic in its styling and design, the Submariner 5513's beautiful stainless steel construction fits the wrist perfectly and with a certain aura of familiarity given the collection's relatively unchanged design since the ref. 5513 was discontinued in 1988.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case has thick lugs that retain well defined lugs. There are various small marks and scratches visible along the case sides and lug surfaces. The bezel insert is free from any serious scratches or marks on the surface, and has an original tritium pip. Bezel ring teeth are sharp and well defined. Original MK4 Maxi-Dial in near-mint condition. Luminous plots have a creamy color and are similarly toned to the tritium hands. There is minor corrosion visible along the hands as seen in the images. Watch comes on an original 91350 oyster bracelet with 12 links total, 2 of which are removable. The clasp has a "G" date code and shows minimal stretch.
Our Perspective
The Maxi Dial 5513 is simply one of the most iconic sport watches that Rolex has ever made. With beautifully aged luminous and matching hands, this is an excellent example you won't want to miss.
