Introduction

Debuting in 1953 and released to the public the following year, the Rolex Submariner has undoubtedly become one of the most iconic timepieces of all time thanks to its legendary status as Rolex's flagship dive watch. Used extensively by the British Royal Navy and professional diving operations like COMEX, the Submariner set the bar for all dive watches to follow. Featuring a genuinely timeless design that has remained relatively unchanged throughout its history, the Rolex has become the archetypal sports watch. With very few large-scale aesthetic upgrades made to it over the years except for timely advancements like introducing a date function to the collection in the late '60s, and its modern cerachrom bezels, the Submariner is seen as the prototypical dive watch thanks to its consistency. The Submariner has earned its status as a legendary watch, with it today remaining as one of the most sought-after timepieces around.

Launched in 1990, the Rolex Submariner ref. 14060 is known as “the last of the best” due to its position as the last no-date Submariner to ever feature an aluminum bezel insert which is a major design details that remains rooted in vintage Rolex. However, the ref. 14060M was launched nearly a decade after the ref. 14060 in 1999, as a sub-reference whereby it retains the 14060’s construction, but boasts an upgraded movement with improved performance, the automatic cal. 3130; as designated by the “M” in its reference number, standing for “Modified.” Produced until 2010 alongside the ref. 16610LN and 16610LV, the ref. 14060M marked the last of the five-digit submariner references and has thus become collectible in its own right.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Boasting a jet-black dial that is free from any signs of ageing and a jet-black aluminum bezel insert that is also free from any signs of ageing or wear, this example's display is almost exactly as it was when it was originally sold.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Featuring the Submariner's iconic stainless steel construction, this ref. 14060M boasts solid end-links, but a 'holes case' and hollow center links in its bracelet that marks it as a kind of transitional model that retains a strong vintage feel on the wrist.

Condition

Watch is in excellent condition. Case has full lugs with only minor signs of wear on the surface. Watch was serviced in 2020 and watch was likely polished at that time. Bracelet currently has 10 link total and fits a 7" wrist. There are two additional links that come with the watch. Watch comes with original double boxes, hang tags and guarantee certificate in addition to the service guarantee dated 2020.

Our Perspective

Sitting on the fence between modern and vintage Rolex, the ref. 14060M is a true transitional reference with its modern movement combining with its neo-vintage construction to create a timepiece that is firmly rooted in both eras, and this is perhaps one of the best condition examples you'll ever find on the open market.
