Founded in 2005 and bursting on the scene with some of horology’s most unique and ingenious timepieces, Romain Gauthier’s offerings are some of the most revered in all of watchmaking. Famed for their incredible aesthetics, impeccable craftsmanship, and truly spectacular watchmaking, they are always a sight to behold, with the Logical One standing as one of their best-known models. Offered here we have the Logical One Natural Titanium, launched in 2016 as an expansion upon the collection’s array of metal offerings such as platinum, pink gold, and others. Measuring 43mm in diameter, the Logical One is a sizeable timepiece, but instead of its display being filled with just a dial, it instead boasts a small white enamel subdial at 1 o’clock housing the hours and minutes with another subdial housing the seconds just beneath it so as to provide plenty of space for Romain Gauthier to showcase the majesty of the Logical One’s mechanics. Indeed, the Logical One solves a problem in watchmaking pertaining to the dissipation of energy from the mainspring to the rest of the watch. As the mainspring unwinds, it loses torque, which means the watch will slow down slightly over the course of its power reserve. To solve this, Romain Gauthier, have fitted the Logical One with an improvement on the fusee chain by replacing the fusee with a snail cam (found at 11 o clock) so that it provides constant force to the rest of the movement and thus eliminates the peaks that appear when a watch is fully wound and the troughs that deepen as the watch unwinds. Featuring a beautifully finished chain, and an exposed balance spring, the Logical One’s design is truly stunning, and its execution is second to none.
