Introduction
Offered in the late 1950s as the pinnacle of Seiko’s horological offerings, the Lord Marvel was once the very pinnacle of what Seiko had to offer. Combining impressive horology with luxurious craftsmanship, the Lord Marvel series grew to include a lot of various references, with the one that we have here being the third series ref. 14036. Identified by its silver dial with its engraved Seiko Lord Marvel typeface at 12 o’clock. Featuring applied indices with quite ornate shapes, this Lord Marvel’s dial is elegantly executed, all while still being rather minimalist. Boasting large dauphine hands in 18kt yellow gold, the Lord Marvel is still supremely legible, all while still being a 33.7mm timepiece that is the embodiment of an elegant mid-century dress watch.

THE DIAL
Featuring a silver dial with minimal decoration besides its branding and applied hour markers, the Lord Marvel bought into the mid-century idea that less was more in watch design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Echoing the minimalist execution of its dial, the Lod Marvel's 33mm 18kt yellow gold case construction features thin lugs and a thin polished bezel, both details that combine to the give the watch a sleek presence on the wrist.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some light scratches and some tarnishing on two of the lugs. The case back has light scratches, and the engravings remain reasonably well-defined. The no-lume "engraved MK3" Lord Marvel dial has some light marks, and the hands also show some light scratches. The watch is fitted with a grey alligator strap and a gold pin buckle. Please note: General research suggests that the 14036 is usually found with a "Marvel" signed dial and movement. We believe this watch was born as it currently is with a Lord Marvel dial and movement, but please keep this in mind when bidding.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
An iconic watch for Seiko that provided the foundation for the brand's expansion into higher-end watchmaking, the Lord Marvel was an important watch for Seiko, and its collectability in the modern market goes to prove that.
