Introduction
Launched in 1983, the Seiko Voice Note ref. M516-4009 was ahead of its time in more ways than one. While its LCD display and blacked-out aesthetic might seem perfectly normal for the 1980s, its fusion of interesting materials and rare technology created something that has resulted in a piece of pop culture that collectors still can’t help but get excited about. Made of stainless steel and carbon fiber plastic, the M516-4009’s blacked-out construction was pioneering at the time. Boasting an LCD display for its time-telling functions (including a stop-watch, an alarm, illumination, a day-date display and an hour-chime), the M516-4009's most telling design details are its playback and record buttons for its eponymous voice note feature just underneath its display. Capable of recording either a 4 or 8 second voice note onto 16k of solid state RAM memory, the M516-4009 was truly ahead of its time. In fact, it was so ahead of its time that the Ghostbusters themselves wore one each during the 1984 classic movie and used them to pick up “Electronic Voice Phenomena”. A hard watch to find at the best of times, finding a like-new example with all of its box and papers like this is next to impossible.

Our Perspective
An iconic watch from a legendary movie, the Seiko Voice Note blends ahead-of-its-time construction materials with a unique feature to create something that seems like it was made for the movie itself, but really it was just a case of perfect timing.
