Introduction
Launched in 2019 as a limited edition release of just 150 pieces, the Sinn x The Rake & Revolution 155 Bundeswehr “Dark Star” release marks only the third limited editon re-issue of the revered 155 Bundeswehr military chronograph by Sinn. Historically, the first re-edition appeared in 2005, specifically for the Japanese market, replicating the original Sinn Bundeswehr 155’s design. This was then followed in 2008 by an automatic variant, each produced in quantities of 200 and 272 pieces, respectively. Both editions have since become highly sought-after collectibles. For the 2019 "Dark Star" edition, Sinn restored the classic twin-counter dial layout without the date, infusing the dial’s indices and hands with a cream-colored patina that emulates the aged tritium effect found on the original examples. Additionally, the rotating bezel has been subtly enhanced to display hints of purple under direct light. Faithful to its origins, the watch features a matte-finished case, maintaining the original 43mm size and is paired with the traditional Bund strap, which feeds in to the collection’s aviation heritage. To further enrich this offering, a robust, sand-colored NATO strap with brushed keepers is included alongside a strap-changing tool. A discreet black-on-black star embellishes the dial at six o'clock which pays homage to the ‘3H’ that would have originally been on the dial to highlight its use of tritium.

THE DIAL
Boasting creamy luminous hour markers and hands to pay homage to the aged tritium lume in the original examples, this edition is as faithful as possible to its inspiration. However, the one significant change is the "dark star" at 6 o'clock which its nickname is derived, which signals Revolution's involvement in its design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Maintaining the original's 43mm diameter, the "Dark Star" wears exactly like the original Bundeswehr 155, with its brushed finish providing an exceedingly toned-down and toolish aesthetic on the wrist.

Our Perspective
A faithful re-edition of a modern classic, the "Dark Star" pays faithful homage to its inspiration while also managing to imbue its design with small details that set it apart from what came before it.
