Introduction

Released during Baselworld in 1963, the Heuer Carrera was Jack Heuer’s answer to the market’s growing demand for pure motorsport-inspired chronographs. Having just taken the brand over in 1962, Jack wanted to put his own stamp on Heuer and, as such, sought for the Carrera to be a straightforward chronograph with a legible dial and intuitive design, a style of watchmaking that he preferred. As such, the Carrera was born and quickly became one of the most famous chronographs on the market. Today, it exists as one of the most legendary sports watches ever designed, and so it should serve as no surprise that TAG Heuer have been keen to expand the collection with the model we have here being one of their most audacious Carrera models, the Carrera Heuer-02T Flying Tourbillon Chronograph ref. CAR5A8W.FT6071. Made of PVD-coated titanium with carbon lugs, this blacked-out 45mm timepiece is powered by automatic Heuer 02 Tourbillon movement that is on display via its front and back through a skeletonized dial and exhibition caseback. With black bridges supporting the dial’s architecture, this timepiece’s display is both sleek and still clear and legible. An impressive exercise in haute horology from a brand that seldom enters the fold, this timepiece is a wonderful example of the heights that TAG Heuer is capable of reaching.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring a skeletonized black dial with various black bridges and silver surfaces across its subdial registers and applied hour markers, this timepiece's display is a monochromatic marriage of impressive craftsmanship that is at its most obvious at 6 o'clock, where the tourbillon resides.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Reflecting the timepiece's experimental nature, this timepiece features a PVD-coated 45mm titanium construction that is wonderfully light that also boasts carbon lugs that add a decidedly unique aesthetic to this sleek blacked-out watch.

Condition

The watch is overall in near-mint condition. The carbon fiber case is in near-mint condition and the dial and hands are like new. The bezel has a noticeable scratch and nick near '170'. Comes complete with boxes and papers.

Our Perspective

A tourbillon-wielding chronograph is a tough task for any watchmaker, so for a brand that seldom explores the very upper echelons of horology, this timepiece is an impressive step-up for TAG Heuer, especially when we consider the quality of the final product.
