TOLEDANO & CHAN B/1.2 MOTHER OF PEARL DIAL

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Launched in 2024 as one of horology’s most exciting independent watchmakers, Toledano & Chan was founded by geezer extraordinaire Phil Toledano and his business partner Alfred Chan as a way to merge a shared appreciation for brutalist architecture with their passion for horology. Emerging from that shared vision, Toldano & Chan launched their first watch, the B/1, inspired by the brutalist Met Breuer building in New York City. Debuting in 2025 as a second variant of the B/1, the B/1.2 was launched from the B/1’s very same platform, with the same three-dimensional case that measures 33.5mm wide but ranges from 9.1mm to 10.4mm thick. However, instead of the B/1’s lapis lazuli dial, the B/1.2 features another stone for its dial, Tahitian Mother of Pearl, which is angled with the case towards the wearer. Boasting a destro case design with its crown at 9 o’clock and offered on an integrated bracelet with an exaggerated taper that ensures every single link on the bracelet is uniquely shaped, the B/1.2 showcases an unparalleled level of forethought and design, with the bevel on the 3 o’clock side of the B/1.2’s stainless steel case tracing its way along the entirely of its bracelet. With its uninterrupted silver mother of pearl dial and unique design, the Toledano & Chan B/1.2 is a true triumph of independent watchmaking that deservedly sold out of all of its 175 pieces.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Lacking any sort of inscriptions, branding, or numerals, the B/1.2's Tahitian mother-of-pearl dial is completely undisturbed, thus allowing its display to flow with the rest of its construction, with this example's display featuring a beautiful green hue.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Inspired by 1970s brutalist architecture, the B/1.2's asymmetric destro case is intriguingly three-dimensional thanks to how its case, bracelet, and display are all angled towards the wearer.

Our Perspective

Combining a novel approach to horological design with an equally unusual source of inspiration, the B/1.2 is an exciting exhibition of the wonderfully unique watches that independent brands can create when they aren't afraid to create something new.
