Introduction
First released in 1999, the Tudor Hydronaut was designed as a professional diving watch that marked Tudor’s foray into the luxury sports watch market. Created as an alternative to the Rolex Submariner, which was also produced by Tudor's parent company, Rolex, and a replacement for Tudor’s own Submariner collection, the Hydronaut offered a 200m depth rating, a uni-directional dive bezel, a date aperture with a cyclops lens and a legible display with bright lume. Additionally, with its rugged 41mm diameter, it was capable of withstanding harsh wear and tear, which is further compounded upon by its Jubilee-style bracelet that includes a double locking clasp, which was not the norm for the time with Tudor’s sister brand, Rolex. An impressive watch that had big shoes to fill with the Submariner, the Hydronaut has since made way for the Black-Bay, but it certainly served its time as an important part of Tudor’s history as their premier dive watch.

Our Perspective
A cult-classic amongst Tudor collectors, the Hydronaut formed part of Tudor's "Naut" collections, with the Hydronaut being their dive watch and the Aeronaut and Iconaut representing Tudor’s first foray into the world of traveler watches.
