Introduction

First launched in 1969 following Tudor’s Rolex’s success with their Day-Date collection, the Tudor Date-Day was perhaps one of Tudor’s most significant releases in their history. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Date-Day features a date and day complication at 3 and 12 o’clock, respectively, yet combines a stainless steel construction with the complications in what was an unusual move for the Rolex group that resulted in the Date-Day being considerably more affordable than its precious metal sibling. Combined with its Rolex-signed parts, the Tudor Date-Day still packed the robust nature of Rolex’s watches, but without the price tag. In another move that continued to push the Date-Day as its own collection, Tudor designed the Date-Day with a 37.5mm case instead of the Rolex Day-Dates smaller 36mm case. While a seemingly small difference by today’s standards, the resulting differential ensured that the Tudor Date-Day was favored by those looking for a large and robust watch that still featured the Day-Date’s utility, while remaining uncompromising on the practical aspects of watch wearing.

Our Perspective

Offering one of Rolex's most prestigious complications in a material that Rolex only offered the Day-Date in a handful of times, the Tudor Date-Day is in a format that is sufficiently unique to enjoy in its own right.
