Introduction
Introduced in 1976, the Tudor “Big Block” chronographs marked a major evolution in the brand’s sporting watch lineup and represented Tudor’s first automatic chronograph series. Powered by the Valjoux 7750 movement, the reference 94300 combined the practicality of automatic winding with the bold case proportions and motorsport-inspired aesthetics that defined chronograph design during the era. Early examples such as the watch offered here are particularly sought after among collectors due to their rare “Solo” dial configuration, distinguished by the presence of only the applied Tudor shield without the later “Oysterdate” text on the dial. Produced for a relatively short period before subsequent dial variations were introduced, these earliest executions occupy a special place within the history of Tudor chronographs and are increasingly regarded as some of the most collectible vintage Tudor sports watches.

THE DIAL
The silver panda-style dial represents the earliest and rarest “Solo” configuration of the ref. 94300, featuring only the applied Tudor shield signature without the additional “Oysterdate” text found on later examples.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The stainless steel “Big Block” case introduced substantially thicker proportions than earlier Tudor chronographs in order to accommodate the automatic Valjoux 7750-based movement within. Its broad angular architecture, screw-down pushers, and tachymeter bezel firmly place the watch within the golden era of 1970s sports chronograph design.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case has scratches and small nicks, while the case back shows light scuffs. The bezel retains its brushed finish and all of the enamel remains intact within the tachymeter scale, with a couple of small nicks visible to the edge. The dial is excellent, with a few minor surface marks. The hands show some oxidation, with wear to the black finish on the hour and minute hands and discoloration to the lume. The watch is fitted with a solid-link steel Oyster bracelet showing surface marks, wear to the coronet on the clasp, and moderate play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 12 links and fits approximately a 7 3/4” wrist.
Our Perspective
As the earliest and purest execution of Tudor’s first automatic chronograph, the “Solo” Big Block occupies a particularly important position within vintage Tudor collecting, combining rarity, historical significance, and unmistakable Wilsdorf character.
