Introduction
Launched in the 1960s and produced in its now-vintage form until the late 1980s, the Tudor Ranger was a robust field watch inspired by its cousin, the Rolex Explorer. Re-introduced in 2014, the Ranger’s role in Tudor’s history as a sports watch watchmaker cannot be overlooked. Sporting a 34mm stainless steel Rolex-signed case, caseback, crown, and bracelet, the Ranger’s construction was infamously robust for its day. Featuring a black dial with a 12-6-9 dial arrangement and a cyclops lens over its date window, the Ranger ref. 9050/0 offered an additional and valuable utility that the time-only Explorer and its predecessor time-only Ranger variants did not feature - a date display. With its unique shovel hands holding plenty of lume, the Ranger proved to be a popular watch with its fantastic versatility, sturdy construction, and sleek aesthetic ensuring that it would remain truly timeless – something that we can attest to given the proliferation of its design in modern horology.

THE DIAL
Featuring a black dial with its iconic 12-6-9 arrangement and its large cyclops aperture, the Ranger's dial is wonderfully utilitarian and legible. Additionally, this example's hands and indices all include lume with an evenly distributed and deep yellow patina that stands out beautifully against its black backdrop.

Our Perspective
Produced from the 1960s until the 1980s, the Ranger played an important role in the development of Tudor's reputation as a robust sports watchmaker - a reputation that has stuck with Tudor well into the modern day. With most of these being fake, its quite rare to find a nice original example.
