Introduction
Founded in 1846, Ulysse Nardin are one of watchmaking’s most famed brands in the world of seafaring due to their highly accurate marine chronometers and complicated timepieces. In service across more than fifty of the world's navies from the end of the 19th century till 1950, Ulysse Nardin’s modern brand is built upon this maritime heritage, with a host of their offerings linked to the sea. However, they also have a slew of offerings that break from that seafaring tradition, much like the Ludwig Perpetual Calendar ref. 339-20 that we have here which was launched as a limited edition series of 150 pieces in 1996 to celebrate Ulysse Nardin’s 150th anniversary. Made of platinum, this entirely-polished 38.5mm timepiece boasts a perpetual calendar that is rather uniquely displayed through its patterned silver dial, with its unusual layout shining through the watch’s quartet of apertures. At 1 o’clock there is the enlarged date aperture, at 6 o’clock there is the year aperture, at 3 o’clock there is the month aperture and at 9 o’clock within the running seconds subdial is the day aperture. A wonderful reminder that while a brand might be known for one thing, like marine chronometers in UN’s case, they can also surprise you with something from an entirely other world, just like this timepiece.

THE DIAL
Featuring a rather unique pattern on its silver dial, the Ludwig Perpetual Calendar's display is rather beautiful, but with its unusual layout of its pairing of double apertures (1 o'clock for date and at 6 o'clock for year), and double aperture for the month and day (3 and 9 o'clock respectively), the Ludwig Perpetual Calendar is the embodiment of Ulysse Nardin's unique sense of horology.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring the noblest of watchmaking materials for one of watchmaking's most esteemed complications, the Ludwig Perpetual Calendar features a 38.5mm platinum case that is entirely polished and topped off with an appealing domed design.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall very good condition. The platinum case has scratches and small nicks across the case and case sides, with some more noticeable scuffs and scratches on the bezel. The case remains well defined. The display case back has crisp engravings around the edge and some light scratches. The winding crown is excellent. The dial is excellent with some minor marks and gentle aging to a cream hue. The hands are very clean. The watch is fitted with a black Maurice Lacroix alligator strap and a platinum Ulysse Nardin pin buckle in very good condition, showing scratches and marks. Comes complete with presentation box, warranty card, timing certificate, booklets, and assorted paperwork. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
An unusually designed model to celebrate an anniversary that very few businesses get to celebrate, the Ludwig Perpetual Calendar pays homage to Ulysse Nardin's heritage in the way they know best, with its unique take on one of horology's most coveted complications.
