Introduction
Founded in 1846, Ulysse Nardin are one of watchmaking’s most famed brands in the world of seafaring due to their highly accurate marine chronometers and complicated timepieces. In service across more than fifty of the world's navies from the end of the 19th century till 1950, Ulysse Nardin’s modern brand is built upon this maritime heritage, with a host of their offerings linked to the sea. However, they also have a slew of offerings that break from that seafaring tradition, much like the San Marco Hour Striker ref. 759-20 that we have here. Made of platinum, this timepiece boasts a "Sonnerie En Passant" striking hour and half hour at 12 o'clock and an accompanying on/off indicator at 3 o'clock. Additionally, the watch also features an automaton Jack on its dial whereby the silver figure strikes the bell in step with the sonnerie itself. Boasting applied Breguet numerals atop its guilloche mother of pearl dial, the San Marco Hour Striker is a wonderful reminder that while a brand might be known for one thing, like marine chronometers in UN’s case, they can also surprise you with something from an entirely other world, just like this timepiece.

THE DIAL
Featuring a moving automaton atop its mother-of-pearl dial, the San Marco Hour Striker's figure hits his bell in real-time as the watch chimes the hour and half hours.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring the noblest of watchmaking materials for one of watchmaking's most esteemed complications, the San Marco features a 40.5mm platinum case that is entirely polished and topped off with an appealing domed design.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows minor signs of wear, with some light scratches and marks visible on the lugs and bezel. Dial appears near-mint and does not show any visible signs of degradation. Please note that the chiming mechanism is working properly, but the watch is keeping poor time as indicated in the timing machine readout. A service may be advised.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Combining an automaton with one of watchmaking's most revered complications, a stunning dial and a platinum case, the San Marco Hour Striker serves to highlight what Ulysse Nardin are capable of once they branch outside of their typical offerings.
