Introduction
Introduced as the second limited edition collaboration between Italian indie watchmaker Unimatic, the U1-FBL is a member of the Modello Uno collection, but instead of being a regular production piece it is a limited edition variant of just 30 pieces. Celebrating Saudi Arabia, the U1-FBL features a green bezel that encircles a matching green dial, which makes its link to Saudi Arabia apparent through its use of Eastern Arabic numerals. Boasting a commemorative caseback that is individually numbered out of 30 and decorated with Arabic script that reads “Smile and the world will smile for you, cry, and you’ll cry alone”, the U1-FBL is a wonderful display of the sorts of unique and interesting timepieces that indie watchmakers can produce from time to time.

Featuring the same dial design as the previous Saudi Arabian collaboration, the U1-FBL boasts a green bezel that surrounds a matching green dial that features Eastern-Arabic numerals.
THE CASEBACK
Bearing an individually numbered caseback out of 30 and featuring Arabic script that reads “Smile and the world will smile for you, cry, and you’ll cry alone”.

Condition
The watch is in near-mint condition. The carbon case shows light signs of wear, with some marks visible on the bezel and insert. The stainless steel case back features well-defined engravings. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a black leather strap and black Unimatic buckle, both in near-mint condition. The watch comes complete with its box and papers and spare green fabric strap.
Our Perspective
An interesting exploration of Saudi Arabian design details through its dial and caseback, while still speaking to Unimatic's signature aesthetic, the U1-FBL is a wonderful display of the interesting timepieces that indie watchmakers can produce.
