Introduction
Produced during the mid-1960s, the Universal Genève Compax ref. 885103/02 is one of the most iconic and sought-after vintage chronographs ever produced by the Swiss brand. Nicknamed the “Nina Rindt” by collectors, the model became closely associated with Nina Rindt, the Finnish fashion model and wife of Formula 1 World Champion Jochen Rindt, who was famously photographed wearing the watch while timing laps during racing events. The nickname has since become deeply embedded within vintage chronograph collecting culture and has elevated the reference into one of the defining motorsport chronographs of the era. Driven by the Valjoux 72 movement, the Compax combined elegant proportions with highly legible sporting aesthetics and exceptional mechanical pedigree. Early “Mark 1” dial examples such as the watch offered here are particularly prized among collectors for their distinctive layout and visual characteristics.

THE DIAL
The Mark 1 dial features the classic “panda” configuration with contrasting black chronograph registers set against a light dial surface, creating one of the most recognizable chronograph designs of the 1960s.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 36mm stainless steel case reflects the elegant proportions and restrained sporting design language that defined Universal Genève chronographs during the 1960s. Its slim bezel, sharp lugs, and balanced dimensions give the watch exceptional wearability while maintaining the refined appearance that helped distinguish the Compax line from many contemporary racing chronographs.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case remains very well defined, with light surface marks visible throughout, while the case back retains its original serial number and reference number engravings. The bezel insert shows some surface scratches. The original crown and pushers remain present and in excellent condition. The dial remains very good, with moderate signs of degradation and some small scratches, while the hands remain clean. It is fitted with a black leather bund strap.
Our Perspective
Everyone knows the cool story of the "Nina Rindt", what a watch! I bought this twenty years ago from a recently-retired police officer from Illinois. I have been the happy custodian of his work watch ever since.
