Introduction

Vacheron Constantin has evolved over the years from their position in the shadows of their fellow "Holy Trinity" members, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, to a watchmaker that is revered throughout the entire watchmaking industry. Crucial to this development was their attractive dress watches like the ref. 6378Q that we have here with its stunning silver dial and beautiful 35mm 18kt white gold construction. While most high-end brands typically focus on created understated round dress watches during the 1960s, there has always been room for watchmakers to experiment with timepieces that break from that convention in some way, shape or form, and form is how the example that we have here breaks from that convention. While perfectly circular in shape, the ref. 6378Q’s case boasts a pronounced bezel and prominent lugs that give the watchmaker ample area to decorate the case with a slew of subtle engravings that showcase Vacheron’s attention to detail. Set apart from the typical circular dress watches of its era in aesthetics, this example also exceeds its peers in specs with its automatic movement, which adds to its appeal to today’s modern collectors.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in very good overall condition. The textured finish 18k WG case is in very good condition with visible surface scratches and some dirt/grime trapped on the surface. The crystal has visible scratches on the surface. The dial has been refinished at some point and is generally free from any significant marks or scratches, but some of the indexes are oxidized as seen in the images. The watch comes on a Kreisler steel mesh band. Please note that while the watch is ticking at the time of cataloging, the timekeeping is very poor and a service is needed.

Our Perspective

A unique blend of vintage dress watch nuances like its simple construction, and the artisanal craftsmanship of Vacheron Constantin through its decorative engraving, the ref. 6378Q is a thoroughly easy watch to enjoy in today's age of modern watchmaking.
