Introduction
Famed for their incredible dress watches and impeccable craftsmanship, Vacheron Constantin has evolved over the years from their position in the shadows of their fellow "Holy Trinity" members, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, to a watchmaker that is revered throughout the entire watchmaking industry. Crucial to this development was their attractive dress watches like the ref. 4906 that we have here, with its stunning champagne dial boasting applied dagger indices, applied 12 and 6 Arabic numerals, gold hands and a Turler signature at 12 o’clock to highlight that it was originally retailed by the famed Swiss watch and jewellery retailer. Boasting a beautiful 18kt yellow gold construction and hailing from the late 1950s, this timepiece speaks to the aesthetic tastes of its time in the mid-century period. Made of 18kt yellow gold, this 35mm example features elegant lugs and a proportionate flat bezel with a subtle step that flows down on the midcase, which results in this timepiece’s construction having elegant and classical proportions on the wrist.

THE DIAL
Featuring a co-signed champagne dial with applied dagger-shaped indices, this example was originally retailed by Turler, the Swiss watch retailer, as revealed by its company logo found just above the central hand pinion.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring elegant swooping lugs, a subtle step to its flat bezel as it meets the midcase, and a 35mm diameter that is slightly on the large side for the time, the ref. 4906 makes for the perfect vintage dress watch within the context of today's sizing standards.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some light marks and scratches, as expected with a watch of this vintage. The hallmarks and stamps on the backs of the lugs are well defined. The dodecagonal case back has some light scratches. The dial has some light surface spots but features very clean applied hour markers, along with both Vacheron and Turler retailer signatures. The gold hands are very clean. It is fitted with a brown leather strap and gold-plated buckle in excellent condition. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
Perfectly sized, powered by an automatic movement, co-signed by one of Switzerland's most iconic watch retailers, and boasting some of Vacheron Constantin's famed mid-century craftsmanship, this ref. 4906 is a wonderful example of 1950s horological excellence that so many collectors cherish.
