Introduced in 2018 as a revival of the Vacheron Constantin ref. 6073 from 1956, one of the brand’s most historic references, the Fiftysix is the Holy Trinity member’s most accessible offering that retains deep roots in the brand’s history. Offered in stainless steel and measuring 40mm in diameter, the Fiftysix is a casual dress watch that pays homage to what came before it while also embracing modern collector preferences and showcasing Vacheron’s impressive craftsmanship. Featuring a dark blue dial that boasts applied Arabic numerals for the even hours and applied indices at the odd numbers that combine to create a sector design whereby the indices create sections across the dial, the Fiftysix’ display is a wonderful example of how Vacheron creates timepieces with details that house subtle intricacies that reveal themselves once you delve a little deeper, which is echoed in its stainless steel case. While its case is round and fitted with a sloped flat bezel, its construction features angular details such as the engraving that traces its way around the bezel and into the corners of the lugs. Furthermore, its lugs come to points rather than being flat across, and its crown guards travel straight out of its case and stop at a point that leads onto the winding crown. On the reverse, the Fiftysix ref. 4600E features an exhibition caseback that reveals its stunningly finished automatic movement, the cal. 1326, and its luxurious 22kt yellow gold winding rotor that is also beautifully skeletonized. An exercise in rich horological heritage, gorgeous design and impressive craftsmanship, the Fiftysix is a watch any collector could be proud to own, even if it is Vacheron’s entry-level offering, as entry-level does not mean the same thing for every brand.
