Introduction

Famed as the world’s oldest continuously operating watchmaker known for their incredible dress watches and impeccable craftsmanship, Vacheron Constantin has evolved over the years from their position in the shadows of their fellow "Holy Trinity" members, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, to a watchmaker that is revered throughout the entire watchmaking industry. Crucial to this development was their attractive dress watches like the example we have here, the ref. 6030. Made of 18kt yellow gold, this 1950s-era dress watch is wonderfully thin and features a manual-wind movement like so many watches from its time. Featuring an elegant and understated silver dial, another remnant of its age, the ref. 6030’s aged dial has turned a soft beige cream color and features a gentle crosshair seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. However, perhaps the ref. 6030’s most iconic piece of design is its scrolled lugs. Featuring wide flaring lug hoods that start narrow and sweep out from the case and back in as they meet the leather strap wraps around its wearer’s wrist, the ref. 6030’s lugs are immediately distinctive from all angles. Named after their scrolled design, the lugs’ ends begin to curl in on themselves like a scroll of paper would. This allows for a wonderful wearing experience as the leather strap they hold can hang directly down the wrist.
