Introduction

Produced during the 1970s, the Wittnauer Professional Chronograph ref. 7004A embodies the bold and highly functional design language that came to define many sporting chronographs of the era. Closely associated with motorsport and professional timing aesthetics, the model combined robust chronograph functionality with distinctive visual details that helped separate it from more conventional chronographs of the period. Powered by the dependable Valjoux 7733 manual-wind movement, the ref. 7004A is particularly recognized today for its unusual burgundy bezel and oversized lollipop chronograph seconds hand, both of which contribute to its unmistakably 1970s character. Combining strong wrist presence with vibrant design cues, the Professional Chronograph has become an increasingly appreciated vintage chronograph among collectors seeking something distinctive beyond the mainstream offerings of the era.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

The dial features a classic bi-register chronograph layout with bold white printing and luminous hour markers designed for maximum legibility. Its oversized lollipop chronograph seconds hand adds a highly distinctive visual element, while the bright lume provides strong contrast against the dark dial surface. Together with the burgundy bezel, the dial perfectly reflects the colorful and expressive sporting aesthetics of the 1970s.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

The stainless steel case measures 40mm in diameter and is paired with the model’s distinctive burgundy bezel, a feature that has become closely associated with the ref. 7004A among collectors. The broad case proportions and integrated bracelet design reinforce the watch’s purposeful sporting character, while the pump pushers and tachymeter bezel maintain the practical functionality expected of a professional chronograph from the period.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows light surface scratches, while the case back displays a more noticeable scratch. The winding crown shows some wear to the finish and the pushers display light surface marks. The bezel remains well defined and the insert remains clean, with a few light scuffs. The acrylic crystal shows scratches and small nicks. The dial remains near mint, while the hands remain clean and may have been relumed at some point. It is fitted with a steel bracelet showing surface marks and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 17 links and fits approximately a 7” wrist.

Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Our Perspective

The unusual colored bezel, wide lumed hands, and lollipop second-hand make this Wittnauer stand out. While not the rarest of references, to find one with such an attractive bezel and original bracelet is not easy.
