Introduction
Produced during the early 1970s, the Zodiac Zodia-Chron Hermetic represents the brand’s distinctive approach to the manual-wind chronograph during one of the most competitive eras of sports watch production. While Zodiac is perhaps best known for its dive watches, the Zodia-Chron line demonstrated the company’s ability to produce capable and attractively designed chronographs with strong sporting character. Powered by the legendary Valjoux 72 movement — the same calibre used in some of the era’s most iconic chronographs — the ref. 692-841 combines reliable mechanical performance with an aesthetic that feels unmistakably rooted in the motorsport-influenced design language of the period. Featuring a compact stainless steel case, contrasting chronograph registers, and a fixed tachymeter bezel, the Zodia-Chron Hermetic stands today as an increasingly appreciated alternative within the world of vintage Valjoux-powered chronographs.

THE DIAL
The silver dial features applied hour markers and contrasting white chronograph subdials that give the watch a classic “reverse panda” appearance. A brushed silver outer track frames the display, adding texture and depth to the dial while reinforcing the watch’s sporty character.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The stainless steel case measures 37mm in diameter, the case offers classic vintage chronograph proportions while retaining strong wrist presence thanks to its fixed tachymeter bezel. The even patina that has developed across the bezel adds warmth and character, complementing the watch’s well-preserved overall appearance.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case remains well defined, with surface scratches and light nicks as expected of a watch of this vintage. The dodecagonal case back retains well-defined engravings with some surface scratches. The bezel shows surface marks and wear around the perimeter. The dial remains excellent, while the hands remain clean. It is fitted with a steel Zodiac bracelet showing light surface marks and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 20 links and fits approximately a 7” wrist.
Our Perspective
Zodiac isn’t a name on the tip of most vintage watch collectors tongues, but I find these lesser known brands fascinating especially when they are running a Valjoux 72, have a dot above 90 bezel, and brushed aluminum face. The movement and the dial (made by Singer) are the same as those used in the Rolex Daytona.
